Who we are

Monks by Monastic is the education arm of Monastic Media. Both are run by ECOMFIRST VENTURES (GSTIN 24DIFPP5850R1ZI), registered at 401, 4th Floor, Kalp Business Center, Citylight, Surat 395007, Gujarat, India. In these policies "we", "us" and "Monks by Monastic" mean ECOMFIRST VENTURES, trading as Monks by Monastic.

We decide why and how your personal data is used, so under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the data fiduciary for it.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run the free counselling call, the programme and the student area:

  • When you book a counselling call (on our TidyCal booking page): your name, e-mail, current role, city, what you want from the programme, a confirmation that you are 18 or older, and a WhatsApp number.
  • When you join the programme and use the student area (/learn/): the e-mail you sign in with (by Google or a one-time code), your name and batch as we enrol you, which lessons you open and complete, and the answers you write in lessons.
  • When you visit this website: the pages you view and the buttons you press, your browser and device type, your IP address, and, if you arrived from one of our ads, the ad's link tags. The Meta Pixel and our own first-party cookie record this (see the Cookie policy).
  • When you write to us: your message and the contact details you use.

Why we use it

  • To hold your counselling call, answer your questions and follow up about Monks by Monastic.
  • To enrol you, run your batch, give you the student area and review your work.
  • To know which of our ads and pages lead to booked calls, so we can show our ads to people they are relevant to on Facebook and Instagram.
  • To keep records the law asks us to keep, and to handle complaints.

Our legal basis

We use your personal data with your consent, which you give when you book a call, enrol or accept cookies in your browser, and for the legitimate uses the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 allows, such as complying with the law. You can withdraw consent at any time by writing to hello@monastic.media; this does not undo use that happened before you withdrew it.

Who receives it

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the services that run Monks by Monastic for us, and only for the uses above:

  • TidyCal: the booking page for counselling calls.
  • Google: calendar invitations, Google Meet and Google sign-in.
  • Meta Platforms: the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API, so we can see which ads lead to booked calls. Contact details sent to Meta are hashed first.
  • Supabase: the secure database behind the student area.
  • The Monastic Media team members who run and teach Monks by Monastic.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it.

Where it is stored

These services may store data on servers outside India. We use providers that protect personal data with reasonable security practices, as the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules require.

How long we keep it

We keep booking details for as long as we need them for the call and any follow-up, and student records for as long as you are enrolled and for the period the law or your enrolment agreement requires after that. We delete or anonymise data we no longer need.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can:

  • ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and who we shared it with;
  • ask us to correct, complete or update it;
  • ask us to erase it, unless the law requires us to keep it;
  • withdraw your consent;
  • nominate a person to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act;
  • raise a grievance with us and, if you are not satisfied, with the Data Protection Board of India.

How to use your rights

Write to hello@monastic.media from the e-mail you used with us. We acknowledge your request within 24 hours and act on it within 15 days. See Grievance redressal for the full process.

Age

Monks by Monastic, its counselling call and its student area are for people 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Security

We use access controls, encrypted connections (HTTPS) and providers with recognised security practices. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
